Ilona is the Finnish Theatre Performance Database maintained by the Theatre Museum and the Theatre Info Finland. Ilona serves those producing, collecting and researching data on theatre as well as anyone seeking information. All performances by professional theatres since the 1800s are recorded in the Ilona database and it is continuously updated.  (Performances by theatre groups receiving the state grant outside the Finance Act are recorded since 1 August, 2002. Swedish-speaking theatre performances are recorded starting from the 1960s and performances of the Finnish National Opera from the 1970s.)

In the Ilona database you can search information on a specific play, its performances in Finland, the production team or other information presented in the programme leaflet. The basic data for each performance includes the name of the production, author, performing theatre, opening night, seasons, number of performances and spectators.

As the audience figures have been recorded from the season 1968–69 onwards, this data may be missing form performances dating beyond that season. Also the number of performances may be missing from the earliest performances. Information on directors are recorded from 1992 onwards, and from 1 August, 2002 also other artists and actors’ roles in accordance to the information given in programme booklets. The programme information of the performances that premiered prior to 1 August, 2002 will be recorded in the database gradually. The archive of the Theatre Museum collects and stores programme leaflets of Finnish theatres, so you are welcome to study the data missing from the database in our Research Room.

Information on opera and ballet performances can be searched at the Encore database maintained by the Finnish National Opera. The database contains information on performances of the National Opera, and its predecessor the Finnish Opera, starting from the very first performance in 1911. With the help of the search service you can find out which works have been performed and who were the professionals in the production team. The Encore database can be found here.
