Seminar: Documentation and preservation of performing arts


The Autumn seminar of the Finnish Society of Theatre Research will be organized at Theatre Museum Arkadia Theatre on 13 November at 9.30–16.

Keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Patrick Primavesi (University of Leipzig).

The morning session  9.30–12 will be held in English, afternoon sessions in Finnish.

10:00 Keynote: Prof. Patrick Primavesi, University of Leipzig: Documenting and Preserving Dance – Specifics and Challenges

In regard to the challenges of documentation and preservation, dance has its own specifications and problems. These are reflected not only by companies and archives but also by contemporary artists to a degree that one could even speak of an 'archival turn', if not the concept of turns had become dated itself. The lecture will show that the problems and tendencies of this process are paradigmatic for the broader field of performing arts and theatre in particular when considered as cultural practices.
