Theatre Museum

Theatre Museum’s first Culture Kids events are coming soon!

14.04.2022

Theatre Museum, together with five other cultural organizations, is a cultural sponsor of children born in Helsinki in 2022. The museum's Culture Kids events will start in May! Together with our neighbors the Hotel and Restaurant Museum and the Finnish Museum of Photography, we will organize five Baby Museum Mondays for our Culture Kids in May.

The Theatre Museum's programme includes Makeasti oravainen theatre performances, which can accommodate 15 babies and adults at a time. For exact show times, please visit the Culture Kids web service, where you can also register.

MAKEASTI ORAVAINEN

Makeasti oravainen is a wordless theatre performance in which a baby and an adult "swing" together in the squirrel's nest in the crown of the tree. The performance is based on the poem The Squirrel (Oravan laulu) by Aleksis Kivi.

The performance is a relaxing moment where both baby and adult can relax and experience things together. It leads participants into a warm squirrel's nest from which to watch the world go by. The performance allows you to follow the squirrel's activities and the day. The seasons change, but the squirrel's life goes on with its peaceful antics and play. The soundscape of the work consists of two choirs interpreting Aleksis Kivi's poem The Squirrel (Oravan laulu) and the sounds of nature: the wind and the sea, the sound of rain, the rustling of leaves in the wind, the footsteps of a fairy in the forest.

Duration: about 30 min.

All of the city’s little ones born in or after 2020 are invited to join. The Culture Kids sponsor invites the children and a member of their family to at least two events every year. The events support children’s development and promote the wellbeing of the entire family. Sign up children living in Helsinki who were born in or after 2020 for the Culture Kids programme at kummilapset.hel.fi.

The cultural sponsor is determined by the year in which your child was born. More than 30 organizations from Helsinki’s art and culture community participate in Culture Kids as sponsors. The sponsorship continues until the child starts primary school. Together with Theatre Museum the sponsors of children born in Helsinki in 2022 are: Cirko – Center for New Circus, Hotel and Restaurant Museum, Finnish Museum of Photography, Dance House Helsinki and Dance Theatre Hurjaruuth. All events are free-of-charge for the children participating in the programme.

The Culture Kids programme is arranged by the City of Helsinki Culture and Leisure Division and supported by the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation.
