Oliver Taplin
Oliver Taplin is professor emeritus of classical languages and literature at Oxford University. He is one of the world’s most esteemed scholars of ancient Greek dramatic texts and theatre. His best-known works include The Stagecraft of Aeschylus (1977), Greek Tragedy in Action (1978), Comic Angels (1993) and Pots and Plays (2007). Together with his colleague Edith Hall, Taplin founded the research centre the Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman Drama (APGRD, http://www.apgrd.ox.ac.uk).
The interview with Oliver Taplin is divided into three videos; each lasts 3-6 minutes. In the first video, Taplin reflects on the meaning of Greek tragedies for contemporary theatre practitioners and audiences. In the second video, Taplin discusses themes and questions he would like to see dramatic artists address in future productions of tragic texts. In the third video, Taplin reveals how he originally developed an interest in Greek drama.
