The musical conservatories of Viipuri provided singers in sufficient numbers to put on operas, which were produced in collaboration with the theatre. The city’s dancers had mastered ballet techniques sufficiently to perform the spectacle scenes from Swan Lake on the occasion of Viipuri luring Finland´s most famous ballerina of the day, Lucia Nifontova, to headline; the Russian population was thrilled to see her in the flesh.
